For some time now I have wanted to create a space to share all of my many ideas, resources and takeaways from the countless hours of continuing education that I take part in each year. I love educating the parents that I work with and understand that for most of us (including me) hearing information one time may not be enough. Personally, when learning something new, I love to hear the information, read about it some more, and then let it soak in for a bit, before I reread it one or two more times. So, here, in this blog, I will share all of my favorite bits so each of you can peruse at your leisure.
My intention in this blog is to help each parent or caregiver better understand the “why” behind some of their child’s challenges, be it physical, behavioral, or social-emotional. As an occupational therapist approaching my 20th year (geez, how time flies!), I have come to find that my true passion is in helping our children feel good about themselves. And, if all the adults in a child’s life can better understand why they are behaving the way they are, maybe that adult can be a bit more patient and understanding. As it’s pretty easy to develop a poor self-image when all of your interactions are negative or you struggle to do the things that come so easily for your peers. I also care deeply about helping parents feel that are succeeding in their most important role.
So, once again, welcome to my blog! I welcome your comments, reflections, and suggestions for future blog posts.
